SOFT CELL

Dúo ingles, revelación del año en septiembre de 1981 con su  single n.º 1 Tainted love y el single n.º 4 Bedsitter en diciembre de ese año. Tainted love fue así mismo elegido single de 1981 en Gran Bretaña. Integran Soft Cell el cantante Marc Almond (9-7-57, Southport, Merseyside) y el multiinstrumentista David  "Dave" Ball (3-5-59, Blackpool, Lancashire, teclados, sintetizadores y batería programada). 

Su primer LP, Non-stop erotic cabaret, constituyó una de las cumbres del techno, ratificado en 1982 con los singles Say hello wave goodbye, Torch y What !, tres buenos hits en los rankings, y el álbum Non stop ecstatic dancing. En 1983 editaron el LP The art of falling apart y los maxi-singles Where the hearts is y Numbers. En 1984 This last night in Sodom representó el último álbum de estudio, momentáneo, grabado por el dúo, que decidieron separarse de manera amistosa. En 1986 el sello Some Bizarre reunió sus singles más representativos en un álbum que tituló sencillamente The singles. Más adelante, en 2001, Marc y Dave volvieron a juntarse para cumplir una serie de actuaciones en vivo y grabaron los álbumes: Cruelty without beauty y The very best of (2002), Live  y At the BBC (2003), The Bedsit tapes (2005), Demo non stop (2006).

Marc Almond, acompañado de Matt Johnson y Annie Hogan, entre otros, ya había editado en 1982 bajo el nombre de Marc and The Mambas el doble álbum Untitled. Su carrera en solitario comenzó con el álbum Vermin in ermine (84), continuada con los álbumes, entre otros, Stories of Johnny (85), Mother fist...y el recopilatorio Singles 1984-1987 (87), The stars we are (88), Jacques (89), Enchanted (90), Tenement symphony (91), 12 years of tears  y Absinthe:The french album (93), Fantastic star (96), Marc Almond and Le Magia:Live in concert (98) y Open all night (99), para así entrar en las décadas siguientes y, hasta la actualidad, grabando nuevos discos. Los singles más conocidos de Marc Almond fueron: Stories of Johnnie  (85), Tears run rings (88),  Something's gotten hold of mi heart  (89) que llegó al nº 1 de listas, Jacky (91), The days of Pearly Spencer (92) y Adored and explored (95). Por su parte Dave Ball también grabó en solitario el álbum In strict tempo (83).
