MUNGO JERRY

Grupo ingles formado en 1969. Su primer single, In the summertime, en 1970, vendería 6 millones de copias y sería n.º 1 en 26 países. El grupo destacaría por ejecutar su música con instrumentos informales, como botellas y demás instrumentos característicos de las jug–bands americanas. 

Después de In the summertime, Mungo Jerry mantendría una regular línea de éxitos con Baby jump (n.º1), Lady Rose (n.º 5) y You don’t have to be in the army (To fight in the war) en el año 1971, Open up en 1972, Alright alright alright (n.º 3) y Wild love en el año 1973 y Long legged woman dressed in black en 1974. La discografía de Mungo Jerry en LP’s la integran los títulos In the summertime (70), Electronically tested (71), You don’t have to be in the army (71), Boot power (72), The best of Mungo Jerry (73), Long legged woman (74), Golden hour greatest Hits (74), Impala saga (76), The Mungo Jerry file (Pye file series) (77),  Lovin' in the Alleys, Fightin' in the Streets (77) y Ray Dorset and Mungo Jerry (78). 


El grupo inicial lo formaron: Ray Dorset (21-3-46, Ashford, Middlesex), a la voz, guitarra y varios; Paul King (9-1-48, Dagenham, Essex), al banjo, guitarra y jug; Colin Earl (6-5-42, Hampton Court), al piano; y Mike Cole, al bajo. John Godfrey reemplazaría a Cole en 1971. Tim Reeves (batería) y Jon Pope (teclado) a Earl y King en 1972. En 1977, Dorset reformó la banda con Earl, Chris Warnes (bajo) y Pete Sullivan (batería). Dorset grabó en 1972 el LP Cold blue excursion en solitario. De 1974 a 1977, Mungo Jerry fue prácticamente Ray Dorset que ha seguido trabajando hasta la actualidad con muy diferentes formaciones.
